Find out how to make changes to your details via LSB Online
Information about Victorian lawyers that appears on the register of lawyers includes:
- Lawyer name
- Law practice name
- Address for service (suburb, state and postcode)
- Languages spoken (voluntary)
- Areas of law practiced (voluntary)
- Any LIV accredited specialisations held (voluntary)
- Disciplinary action taken against a lawyer (find out more about disciplinary action here)
During the renewal process
You can change your name, address for service and update your areas or practice and language information during the renewal process using the ‘Renew your practising certificate’ form in LSB Online.
To update your law practice / organisation name:
- If you have changed employer, this can be changed in the ‘Practice/contact’ tab. Instructions on how to do this are provided in our ‘Changing my place of practice’ user guide
- If the name of your organisation has changed, use the lawyer enquiry form to let us know
At other times in the year
You can make these changes in LSB Online at any time of the year.
- Log into LSB Online
- Select 'Forms' in the top right corner
- Select 'Update your personal details, practice details, languages spoken or practice areas'
- Make sure you click the 'Edit' button to make changes in each tab
Lawyer name
You can change your legal name in the 'Personal Details' tab.
If you are changing your first name or surname, you will need to upload a scanned copy of your change of name certificate (e.g. marriage certificate, deed poll certificate, driver's licence).
Law practice name
If you need to change the name of your organisation, use the lawyer enquiry form to let us know.

Address for service
You can update the address for service in the 'Practice/Contact' tab.
- The address must be a street address
- Only the suburb, postcode and state will appear on the register of lawyers.
Languages spoken
You can change the languages you speak in the 'Languages' tab. You can select up to five languages.
If your language is not listed, you can use the 'Not listed' field.
Areas of law practiced
You can add or remove practice areas in the 'Practice areas' tab. You can select up to 15 areas of practice to appear on the register.
LIV accredited specialisation
To update your LIV accredited specialisation on the register, please email us at news@lsbc.vic.gov.au
This cannot be updated through LSB Online.
During the renewal period
You can change your personal details on the renewal form using the 'Applicant' tab.
At other times of the year
You can make these changes in LSB Online at any time of the year.
- Log into LSB Online
- Select 'Forms' in the top right corner
- Select 'Update your personal details, practice details, languages spoken or practice areas'
- Select the 'Personal details' tab to make changes to your name, gender and post nominal
- If you are changing your first name or surname, you will need to upload a scanned copy of your change of name certificate (e.g. marriage certificate, drivers licence)
During the renewal period
You can change your position details on renewal form using the 'Practice/contact' tab. You can select 'Edit position' to change your position to change your position at your current practice.
If you are changing positions from an ‘Employee’ to a ‘Principal’ within the same organisation, you will need to change your practising certificate type as well. Please see our Principal Practising Certificate FAQs for more information.
At other times of the year
You can change your position through LSB Online. To update these details:
- Log into LSB Online
- Select 'Forms' in the top right corner
- Select 'Update your personal details, practice details, languages spoken or practice areas'
- Select the 'Practice/contact' tab
- TO change your position with your current employer, select 'Edit position' under the relevant practice name. You will need to cease your previous position with your employer and commence your new one.
If you are changing from an ‘Employee’ to a ‘Principal’ within the same organisation, you will need to change your practising certificate type using the ‘Apply for or change your practising certificate’ form. Please also see our Principal Practising Certificate FAQs for more information.
During the renewal period
You can change your practising certificate type on the renewal form using the 'Applicant' tab. A detailed how to guide and video is available to assist you.
At other times of the year
Log into LSB Online and use the ‘Apply for or change your practising certificate’ form.

To change your organisation name or contact details use the form Notification of change information- law practice.
Send this to us using the lawyer enquiry form. Select ‘Updating my details’ as the category.
During the renewal period
Use the ‘Change of personal details or place of practice’ form to let us know that you will no longer be practising in Victoria. Under ‘Current practices’, select ‘cease’, choose a date to cease this position and select ‘Going overseas’ or other relevant field.
At other times of the year
Use the ‘Change of personal details or place of practice’ form to let us know that you will no longer be practising in Victoria. Under ‘Current practices’, select ‘cease’, choose a date to cease this position and select ‘Going overseas’ or other relevant field.
