We are developing our first Consumer Strategy.
To help inform the strategy, we want to hear from the Victorian public, people in the legal sector, and community organisations about what is needed to ensure people who use legal services receive the best possible legal assistance.
Our Consumer Strategy will guide how we support the legal profession to best understand and respond to the needs of people who use legal services, need legal help, or are affected by legal services in Victoria.
It will help us strengthen consumer protection, empower legal service users, support improvements in the legal system, and promote access to justice.
Who we want to hear from
Your voice is important and we’d like to hear from you.
We want to hear from people who:
- have used or are using legal services in Victoria right now
- don’t use legal services in Victoria right now but want to, or need to in the future
- have been impacted by legal services in Victoria.
We also want to hear from legal and community organisations.
How to have your say
Read the VLSB+C Consumer Strategy consultation paper.
If you’re short on time you can provide feedback focused on these 3 questions:
- What are the key challenges for legal consumers that a legal services regulator should be thinking about now, and over the next 3-5 years?
- Do you have feedback on any other significant legal service market or legal consumer issues, risks or trends that should shape the development of the Consumer Strategy?
- What experience, stories, data or research help explain your feedback?
If you have more time you can provide feedback on any or all of the consultation questions on pages 12 to 21 of the consultation paper.
Provide your feedback to us by:
- Emailing written feedback to consumerstrategy@lsbc.vic.gov.au by 5pm Friday 16 October 2026.
- If you want to provide feedback in a different way (like over the phone, or in person), email consumerstrategy@lsbc.vic.gov.au or call (03) 9679 8001 (and select option 1 to get through to our general enquiries staff) by 5pm Friday 2 October 2026 to discuss other feedback options.
If you need support to communicate with us, please let us know. You can also access our translating and interpreting service.
Feedback submissions close at 5pm on Friday 16 October 2026.
Please note: this consultation process is designed to inform our Consumer Strategy. If you have an existing matter with our office or would like to raise an individual concern or complaint, please use our consumer or lawyer enquiry form.
What we will do next
We will draw on this feedback and other research as we develop the strategy.
At the end of the consultation process, we will publish a short de-identified summary of the feedback we got, what we are considering, and our next steps.
We plan to publish the Consumer Strategy in 2027.
