Announcing the 2025 Strong Foundations grant recipients

The Victorian Legal Services Board (VLSB) is pleased to announce the five organisations that will each receive $1 million in funding from our latest Strong Foundations grant round.

Strong Foundations grants are funded through the Public Purpose Fund.

These grants help community legal centres working to improve access to justice for everyday Victorians make an even greater impact.

Unlike project-based grants and funding, Strong Foundations grants enable established organisations to change, improve, and plan for the future by supporting their operations over a 4 to 5 year period.

Victorian Legal Services Board CEO, Fiona McLeay, said that Strong Foundations grants support the long-term stability of community legal centres who are working to provide critical legal assistance to vulnerable Victorians.

‘The recipients of this year’s Strong Foundations grants are working to help those with unmet legal need in communities across Victoria. This year’s grants will support the delivery of legal services to women and non-binary people experiencing family violence, young people, and disadvantaged people in our community, among others.’

‘These five organisations are successful recipients of these grants in recognition of their vital role and success in improving access to justice in Victoria.’

The 2025 Strong Foundations grant recipients are:

  • Fitzroy Legal Service – Victoria's first community legal centre that now serves people within the Cities of Yarra and Darebin.
  • Gippsland Community Legal Service - Anglicare Victoria – providing free legal services to the Gippsland community since 2000.
  • Inner Melbourne Community Legal – providing free legal assistance to disadvantaged people in the City of Melbourne area.
  • Women’s Legal Services Victoria – providing free legal advice, casework and representation to women and non-binary people experiencing family violence, sexual violence and relationship breakdown.
