Victorian Legal Services Board Election 2018

The Victorian Legal Services Board is comprised of a Chairperson, three non-lawyer members and three lawyer members (one barrister and two solicitors). The Chairperson and the three non-lawyer members are appointed by the Governor in Council. The three lawyer members are elected to their positions by the legal profession, as required by the Legal Profession Uniform Law Application Act 2014 . All members serve a four-year term and are eligible for re-appointment or re-election.

2018 Election 

In April 2018 the Board held an election to enable the Victorian profession to vote for one barrister and two solicitors to become members of the Board. The Victorian Electoral Commission conducted the election on the Board’s behalf.

The election attracted a strong field of candidates, with three nominations for the one barrister position and 18 nominations for the two solicitor positions. The list of candidates can be found on the Victorian Electoral Commission website.


The 2018 Board election results were published in the Victorian Government Gazette on 17 May 2018 and list the following candidates as being successfully elected to the Board:

  • barrister position – Jennifer Batrouney QC
  • solicitor position – Liz Harris and Geoff Bowyer.
