This is the full report from the Competency module in the 2025 Victorian Lawyer Census.

This report examines how lawyers understand professional competency. Lawyers were asked to rate the importance of a bank of 38 competencies to their own legal practice, spanning legal-specific and broader professional skills. Responses were analysed as a whole, and related to career stage and practice area.
