Unpaid legal costs
A law practice must not commence legal proceedings to recover legal costs from a person unless a bill has been given for the legal costs and the bill complies with the law and the rules.
A law practice must not commence legal proceedings to recover legal costs from a person until at least 30 days after the date on which the person is given the bill or receives an itemised bill. Where the legal costs are the subject of a costs dispute before the Victorian Legal Services Commissioner, legal proceedings must not be started until the dispute is closed or resolved.
