Smart justice for young people: Investing in communities, not prisons
November 8, 2017
The Smart Justice for Young People report, Investing in communities not prisons, explores justice reinvestment and its experience in Australia and internationally. The report includes experiences from many jurisdictions which have faced similar youth justice issues and challenges as Victoria, but looks to different responses involving spending less on prisons and investing more in communities.
The report proposes various recommendations to the Victorian Government which build on this work to strengthen Victoria’s youth justice system, community safety and the prospects for young people.
It includes case studies of pockets of work here in Victoria that are ‘justice reinvestment-like’ in their features and aims.
